How I have peace while completing my goals.
Blogs need to be written. Art needs to be colored. Laundry needs to be folded. FOOD NEEDS TO BE EATEN. Just a 4 sentence look into my life as a aspiring writer, artist, wife, friend, and food lover.
I have gotten to the point in my life where I want to do things that to better myself as a person and propel myself forward in my career. Maybe you find yourself there as well.
You want to push on toward your goals and dreams and set the world ablaze with all your good ideas, but you find yourself overwhelmed with that very thing. Well, let’s take a step back and take a breather.
Deep inhale and exhale. Three times.
Let me tell you how I have found peace in the chaos of my life journey to achieve my goals.
- Keep Calm & Relax.
I often will listen to music to complete my tasks. Just recently, I started listening to a Cinematic Ambiance playlist on Google Play Music. It helps me to relax my mind and focus on the task I set my mind to do.
When I experience large amounts of stress or anxiety, I am not productive. I’m sure I’m not the only one. The best thing for me to do is take a step back and assess what needs to get done and what can actually wait. Or cut my my tasks in half to make it less daunting.
- Breathe, Breathe, Breathe.
Remember that exercise we did a few sentences ago? Yeah, do that. Keep doing that. I find is most helpful to close my eyes and take several deep breaths. It’s like disconnecting from the world for a moment and realigning. I do this exercise in the morning on my couch alone in silence. I get little alone time during the evening, but during the day, it’s just me and my dog. (My husband is off at work doing QA things)
- Create a Task List.
For years (I mean years) I have wanted a To Do List app that could help me write down the things I wanted to accomplish. I searched high and low for one. I downloaded countless disappoints until finally, a few short weeks ago, I found Google Tasks. For all you IOS users, here is one for you too.
This app allows you to add, check off, and rearrange your tasks. You can even create subtasks and create reminders. I love this app. And If you have a Gmail, you have access to Tasks already!
I just think there is something amazing about seeing your goals and tasks and being able to check them off. If you don’t want to use a digital task list, you can use a notebook or physical calendar.
PS. They are not a sponsor. I just think its amazing.
Ultimately, this is about knowing yourself. I encourage you to take some time to get to know you. If this stresses you out, take some time to figure out why. For me, thinking about my future goals and achievements made me stressed and anxious, but why? Because I hadn’t sat down and ironed out where I wanted to go and how I wanted to get there.
Stay cool peeps!
