Hello again! I really missed writing blogs, but I’m low-key wack, so it’s like what do I even write about! Lol!
Today I wanted to tell the story of how my new book came into existence. I really didn’t intend to write anything else after Road to Grimpaitra because I had been working on that book for so long that I didn’t know HOW to start another book.
I also wasn’t ready to give up on my characters yet. I spent so much time with them in Road to Grimpaitra that I couldn’t let go. I had separation anxiety.
Lol! Anyway, when I finished my last version of Road to Grimpaitra and took a break, I started working on short stories featuring my side characters. These side characters included Harper, Rune, Max, and Adamaris. I published Harper’s short story here on my blog! (It’s old, so forgive me)
Writing their stories and expanding their characters gave me ideas. While writing RTG, Adamaris, Max, and Laird had so much to their story I needed to tell as I wrote their scenes. There was so much history that I needed to explore, and that’s how I came up with the next book.
Don’t think I had their story all planned out before writing it. That is almost impossible for me. Some of their story I learned as I wrote and brainstormed with my friend Mecca. I had to nail down their motives and beliefs, and I made an entire character sheet for each of the three of the mains in this book.
As I come to a close on their story, I’m thankful for what Road to Grimpaitra has provided me. I’m working on a few more short stories featuring other characters from RTG that NEED their story told.
My advice to you as a new writer or a seasoned writer is to dive into the side characters if you are out of ideas! To my characters are people too, with stories that need to exploration!
