Today’s Spotlight interview is Author Rita A. Rubin!
Please enjoy the interview with this awesome lady:
Let’s get to know you!
Who are you and what meal would you gladly eat forever?
Rita: I’m Rita, an Australian indie author who enjoys writing about fantasy and morally grey characters. As for what meal I would gladly eat forever, it would have to be pasta.
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Rita: That more detail and big words don’t necessarily make your writing better. There’s nothing wrong with keeping things short, snappy and easy to understand.
What would you say is the best thing about you?
Rita: Hmm, maybe it would be that I’m pretty empathetic? I always try my best to look at things from another person’s point of view and take their feelings into account when necessary.
Favorite movie and why?
Rita: This is a tough one but I’m going to have to go with Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Not only is it a classic and everything I love in a high fantasy tale, but it’s also a film I could never get tired of watching.
Let’s get to know your book?
Tell us a little about your book and inspiration for it?
Rita: Amulet of Wishes (Chronicles of the Guardians #1) is a YA fantasy about this society of people who can turn into dragons, specifically the story centres around this one boy, Derek Draco, who’s still struggling with the ghosts of his past when he discovers the existence of a mythical amulet that could change all of that.
I got the inspiration for it while going through a difficult period in my own life and at one point I thought to myself if I had the power to go back and change things, would I? Even if it meant doing so might end in disaster?
What message would you like readers to get from your book?
Rita: One thing I would really like readers to take away from Amulet of Wishes is to not let the miseries of your past hold you back.
Which character was the easiest to write? Who was the most challenging?
Rita: I think the easiest character for me to write would have to be Arabelle since we’re just so similar. As for the most challenging, probably Derek since he’s pretty complex and there were a few times where I couldn’t quite nail down what his emotional reactions to certain situations would be.
Rita: Cheese and olives.
Book you’re currently reading?
Rita: The Goddess of Nothing at All by Cat Rector.
